Camp Roosevelt for Boys—Established 1918
World War I was nearly over, the Boston Red Sox clinched the World Series in six games with Babe Ruth setting a record by pitching 29 2/3 shutout innings, the pop-up toaster made its debut and so did Camp Roosevelt for Boys on the bandks of Leesville Lake. (Yes, you guessed it. The camp was named after our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt.)
From the outset, the traditional summer program was dedicated to helping campers gain confidence, improve self image, meet new friends, have fun, and develop independence. Those early goals are still in place today. Then as now, safety is a priority. The camp's passionate, qualified and nurturing staff is well seasoned and caring. Camp Roosevelt for Boys is accredited by the American Camp Association and is more affordable and easier to get to than most private Midwestern camps. The camp shares some weekly programs and activities with its sister camp Firebird Camp for Girls.
